There were a couple of federal funding announcements on Tuesday.

The feds are investing $56,000 so Bonfield can make improvements to its outdoor rink.

The money will enable officials to build a heated change room and an area for the ice resurfacer.

The rink offers public skating and ice rentals in the winter and is a skateboard park during the summer.

Meantime, the new Literacy Alliance Office in Sturgeon Falls had its grand opening.

The feds are providing $458,000 in funding as part of this announcement.

The money will enable 51 young people to complete 16 weeks of work in several areas including retail, food service, trades and construction, general labour and office administration.

That program will be delivered by the Literacy Alliance.
