The redevelopment of Algonquin Nursing Home in Mattawa is officially underway.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Monday.

The $17.5-million dollar project will provide 73 residents with increased access to health care services as they’ll be on a single site, more privacy, larger bedrooms, enhanced infection control processes, better access to bathrooms, and an improved dining space.

“This redevelopment is about providing quality care for seniors and ensuring their new home meets the highest safety and design standards,” said Louise Paquette, CEO, NE LHIN. “We are very pleased that Algonquin Nursing Home and the community of Mattawa are among the first in the province to move forward with their long-term care home redevelopment.”

“This new nursing home will greatly benefit the community with access to quality health services in our region, but most importantly, it is built with the residents and seniors of the Mattawa and area in mind,” said Jérémy Stevenson serves both as President & CEO of the Mattawa Hospital and Administrator of the Algonquin Nursing Home.  “They will receive the highest quality of long-term care services, in the highest facility standards in Ontario, and it builds on the strong reputation of the Algonquin Nursing Home.”

Algonquin Nursing Home is one of 20 homes in the NE LHIN that will be redeveloped over the next eight years.
