Three long-time participants in the annual Mattawa River Canoe Race are set to join race organizers at an information night in just over a week.

The session will include insights on preparing for the 64 km North Bay to Mattawa canoe race, the route and other helpful information.

“Whether you’re a recreational paddler or a pro, it’s a great adventure to paddle in the race,” said Paula Loranger, Community Relations Coordinator. “The portages can be challenging, depending on the water conditions, and the comradery between the paddlers makes it one of the most popular events on the Ontario Marathon Canoe and Kayak Racing Association roster. There are some paddlers who’ve taken part in the race more than 25 years.”

Mark Swain, who has participated in nine races with three category wins, Carol Zimbalatti with three category wins in the six races she’s paddled, and Susan Weiskopf with eight 64km races, three 13km family races and one category win under her belt, will be at the information session.

It’s being held at 6 pm May 18, held at the NBMCA Natural Classroom (15 Janey Ave) in North Bay.

The race is set for July 29, 2017, launched from Olmsted Beach, Trout Lake.
