The North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce has joined with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce in expressing concerns about major changes to the provinces labour laws.

They’ve written a letter involving the Changing Workplaces Review, which looks at issues including work scheduling, sick time and emergency leave.

Chamber President Peter Chirico says proposed changes will have a serious impact.

“The $15 minimum wage, along with sick leave and the proposed changes are certainly going to impact employers ability to maintain their operations,” he says.

The letter warns of possible unintended consequences that may impact job creation and competitiveness and discourage investment in Ontario.

Chirico says minor changes can be absorbed, but not major ones.

“That’s where we believe, and we’re encouraging the provincial government to take a look at the economic impact, because they’re going to have a profound impact on new job creation and the ability for businesses to expand, under present conditions,” he says.

They’re calling on the province to do an economic impact analysis.
