For the 24th straight year students at West Ferris Secondary School have raised funds in the fight against cancer.

This year’s Trojan Parade for Cancer resulted in two cheques, totaling $10,600, being donated.

$9,600 went to the Canadian Cancer Society while $1,000 was donated to the McColeman family.

Gil Pharand is the senior manager of the Canadian Cancer Society locally and says he’s very impressed with the student led effort.

He says it proves students care about doing something about cancer.

Ron Bascomb is a teacher at West Ferris and says it wasn’t difficult to get student interest because of the number of people that have been touched by cancer.

He says everyone knows someone who has been impacted by cancer.

The Trojan Parade for Cancer has now collectively raised around $240,000 through the history of the event.
