Coach4Food founder Tom Hedican is being recognized tonight (Thursday) as the Kiwanis Citizen of the Year.

An event is taking place at the Ramada Pinewood Park Resort.

When it was announced at the end of March that he was being named Citizen of the Year, Hedican said it’s quite the honour.

“This was emotional, I don’t know why, but I guess it’s maybe because Kiwanis is about children and Coach4Food is almost at 1.5-million pounds and it was driven by children,” he says.

Hedican also said a lot of people deserve credit for the success of the program.

“A great Coach4Food staff and I have to share it with the city, really. The people that donated, the kids and the parents that collected the food, they did all the hard work, so I share it with them,” he says.

Coach4Food sees teams collect food donations for the North Bay Food Bank with the top three winning teams receiving a practice with the North Bay Battalion.

The initiative has gone province-wide through the OHL.
