East Ferris is one of several area communities benefiting from last week’s funding announcement for water-related projects from MP Anthony Rota.

Along with the multi-million dollar Cedar Heights project in North Bay, $850,000 is flowing to 18 other projects around Nipissing-Timiskaming.

East Ferris Mayor Bill Vrebosch says without Ottawa’s help, the entire $100,000 cost of a culvert project would be put onto the residential tax base in his community.

“That’s why it’s so important to us, predictable funding is what small places need now,” he adds.

Ottawa is contributing $50,000 to the project in East Ferris.

“The Federal government (and) provincial government have to realize we can no longer fund these on our own, and we have to get this kind of help,” Vrebosch says.

Other communities receiving funding include Callander, Chisholm, Mattawa, Papineau-Cameron and Powassan.
