Pointing to similar changes in B.C. and Quebec that had an immediate impact on the economies of those provinces, MPP Vic Fedeli has introduced a Private Members Bill to allow for 12 storey wood-frame constuction in buildings in Ontario.

He says the bill would provide a boost to Northern Ontario’s forestry industry and create jobs.

At the same time, Fedeli says it would also help Southern Ontario meet growth and density targets with regards to the Golden Horseshoe Growth Plan.

He says it will also provide a reduced carbon footprint in the construction of mid-rise buildings.

Fedeli previously lobbied for six storey wood construction, before the province changed the regulations in 2014 to allow for that.
