“An amazing person and a great artist”.

That’s how Downtown North Bay Executive Director Jeff Serran remembers Ed Eng, who passed away on the weekend after a battle with cancer.

Serran says the Eng family has had a big impact on the downtown and the community.

“Ed, Helen, their whole family, just amazing people. Don’t forget the Chicago Cafe was a multi-generational family business with the Eng’s so people know them from that (and) his artistry with his photography,” Serran says.

He also points to Eng’s work with promoting the waterfront and the carousel.

Eng also organized the local Help Portrait initiative, which is a global movement of photographers who volunteer their time, expertise and equipment to give back to those in need.
