Youth mental health is benefiting locally, thanks to McDonald’s.

McHappy Day raised over $12,000 this year locally, with half the proceeds going to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit at the North Bay Regional Health Centre and the other half to Ronald McDonald House in Toronto.

McDonald’s North Bay and Sturgeon Falls owner and operator Brad Haines says McHappy Day was a record fundraising day this year.

“The fact that we can help local families stay local and that we have the ability to do that right here in North Bay, every little bit helps,” he says.

Manager of CAMHU Erin Kennedy says on top of helping create a comfortable environment this helps them provide children with access to care, close to home.

“There’s the real life logistics, a family is not needing to overcome the barrier of the distance traveled, so for those who might have limited means or other children to care for, we’re talking about a significant number of hours on the road,” she says.

The 40th annual McHappy Day was held May 3rd with one dollar from the purchase of a Happy Meal, Big Mac or hot McCafe supporting CAMHU and Ronald McDonald House.
