Nipissing officials say the new head coach of the women’s basketball program, Katie Hamilton, brings with her a wealth of leadership experience.

She was most recently an assistant coach with the OUA’s Windsor Lancers and Team Ontario at the U17 Level.

In 2012, she was named Ontario Basketball’s Elite Female Coach of the Year and the Canadian Sport for Life Ambassador of the Year.

Lakers athletic director Vito Castiglione is excited to see Hamilton get started.

“Katie brings a wealth of leadership experience in high level basketball programs,” Castiglione said. “We are looking forward to Katie making her imprint on the Lakers basketball program.”

Hamilton is thrilled with the opportunity ahead and is looking forward to getting started.

I’m honored and excited about this opportunity and look forward to meeting the players and getting on the court,” she said. “I’ve been very impressed with Nipissing University, the commitment to the student experience and the dedication to their student-athletes. I’m also excited to be a part of the North Bay community, it’s a beautiful area with very supportive basketball fans.”

Hamilton graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Sociology.

She begins her duties as head coach immediately in preparation for the 2017-18 Ontario University Athletics season, which begins with pre-season play in September and regular season action in October.
