Local residents along with thousands of students will be up at Canadore’s Aviation Campus today (Friday) for the 7th annual Armed Forces Day in North Bay.

There’s a shuttle bus to the venue starting at 8:30 am, with the kickoff at 10am.

Honourary Colonel Harriet Madigan says there’s plenty on the go.

“Meet our military neighbours, see the static displays, an aerial demonstration and meet the Skyhawks, CF-18 and Snowbirds crew up close and personal,” she says.

Honourary Colonel George Burton says the road to the aviation campus will be closed because they’re expecting upwards of 4,000 students.

But, he says there’s shuttle buses leaving from Memorial Gardens, starting at 8:30 am.

He also says tomorrow is all about celebrating the lead-up to Canada 150 with events at the waterfront, including the Skyhawks, CF-18 and Snowbirds.

“All three demonstration teams will be conducting an aerial display over Lake Nipissing. I’m going to encourage everyone to wear red on Friday, Armed Forces Day, and on Saturday at the Waterfront, wear red and white as we lead up to the Canada 150 celebrations,” Burton says.

Saturday also includes musical entertainment from Hidden Roots Collective, Cory Marquardt and Lighthouse.
