Porter Airlines is leaving North Bay.

In an e mail statement Porter says it is concluding its service in North Bay as of September 11, 2017, after the peak summer season. “We never want to leave any market that we enter because we understand the value that competitive air service brings to a community in terms of lower airfares. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough consistent passenger demand for us to continue operating the daily flight we have there.”

North Bay Mayor Al McDonald says he was disappointed to hear the news.

He believes North Bay’s proximity to Toronto may have played a role.

He says we’re so close to Toronto by car and that may impact on people on whether or not to fly.

McDonald says Air Canada Jazz, Sun Wing and Bearskin Airlines remain here.
