A protest outside Hands The Family Help Network on Main Street East today (Tuesday).

Linda Thomas Ouellette says they gathered to support a local 15 year old girl who has autism and is non-verbal.

She says there was an incident of self-harm, pointing out Robyn Webster is now no longer in a Hands group home.

“They won’t take her back, where’s she going to go? Right now she’s at the hospital, she’s not sick! She’s Autistic and it’s not right,” she says.

Denis Ouellette says more needs to be done for Robyn Webster and others.

“What they should be doing is looking at bringing in the expertise that they need in order to look after her, again Robyn is not the only one in the area, right now she’s front and centre,” he says.

He says a list of other group homes was provided, but they’re all full.

Executive Director of Hands Jeffrey Hawkins wouldn’t comment specifically on the case but he did take note of the protest.

He says he appreciates and respects the concerns outlined in the protest and the voice of those at the protest need to be paid attention to.

Hawkins says they don’t abandon families and do find solutions for the people they serve.
