Several weekend events on the go

Ribfest is back at the Voyageur Inn this weekend.

The event runs today (Friday) through Sunday with along with ribs there’s live music and vendors.

A family playland is also open tomorrow and Sunday with inflatables, a rock climbing wall and more.

Officials say three award-winning rib teams will be competing at the event.

There’s also a licensed beer garden all weekend.

The event runs from 4 pm to 11 pm tonight, 11 am to 11 pm tomorrow and 11 pm to 10 pm on Sunday.

Parker’s Your Independent Grocer will be selling beer and cider starting today.

In a release, Loblaws says there will be plenty of variety with craft beer and multi national brands as well.

This weekend features Canada’s 150th birthday, but it’s also the Kiwanis Club’s triathlon weekend in North Bay and there are some changes this year.

Officials say they decided to free up Saturday to encourage families to take in Canada 150 activities.

The adult triathlon takes place Sunday and includes a new bike route.

The Try-a-Tri event for teens and adults also takes place on Sunday while the kids triathlon goes Monday.

Ontario Family Fishing Week is back. From July 1st to the 9th Canadian residents can fish license free in Ontario waters.

Conservation fishing license limits still apply and can be found in the current Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary.

There are a couple local events lined up in South River and Powassan.

Each year there are two opportunities to fish license-free.

The other event is held in winter (February).

The YMCA is holding a free family fun open house at Rotary Camp Tillicum on Sunday.

The event goes from 10 am to 3 pm with swimming, organized games, crafts, camp tours and a free barbecue lunch.

Families can visit the camp at 774 Tillicum Bay Road or by bus, leaving the YMCA on Chippewa Street at 9:30 am Sunday and returning at 3 pm.
