Mattawa residents are benefiting from the latest donation of carbon monoxide detectors involving Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli and the Insurance Bureau of Canada.

They’ve teamed up to donate 25 detectors to the Mattawa Food Bank for local distribution.

The campaign is all about raising awareness about the need for carbon monoxide detectors in all homes with a fuel burning appliance or attached garage, which is the law.

“I am happy to be donating these lifesaving CO detectors,” said Fedeli. “Carbon monoxide poisoning is easily preventable. Donations like these help raise much needed awareness of the importance of guarding against carbon monoxide.”

“Despite the serious threat of carbon monoxide poisoning, many Canadians do not have CO detectors in their home,” observed Kim Donaldson, Vice-President Ontario, IBC. “Events like this help create awareness about the steps Ontarians can take to protect themselves and their families.”

Over the last 15 years, 250 Ontarians have died from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.

Earlier this month, 25 detectors were donated to the Powassan Food Bank too.
