Community mural with a message being painted in North Bay

For the 2nd straight year the corporate arm of Mac’s convenience stores is raising community awareness by being involved in the painting of a community mural.

This one is at the Mac’s store on the 2600 block of Trout Lake Road.

Once again the mural is being created by artist Magic Finnga Wong.

He says he does a lot of the work, but he involves community members too and that’s by design, pointing out art is great at building relationships.

One of the organizations involved is Near North Crime Stoppers.

Mary Houghton of Powassan is with Crime Stoppers and painted the slogan “It pays to do the right thing” on the mural.

She says they are promoting community awareness, while also showing there’s a possible financial reward to reporting crime.

Sean Sportun is the Manager of Security and Loss Prevention at Circle K stores, which owns Mac’s.

He says the murals they’re seeing positive results in the reduction of crime in places where they’ve put up murals.
