The North Bay Food Bank has come out with a two pronged approach to improve the hunger situation locally.

Step one is the “Just One” campaign.

It calls on people to collect just one item for the food bank every time they go grocery shopping.

Food Bank board member Dan Demers says one of the problems is people forget to support the food bank and don’t remember until they’re finished shopping.

He says they’re countering that through posters, handouts and social media.

Demers says the other prong is a community capital campaign and they’re calling on businesses to help in a number of ways, including informing their employees that the food bank needs their help when they shop.

He says businesses are being asked to do what they can, with packages from $500 to $10,000 available.

Demers says he’s expecting 90 % of their food requirements to be raised through the Just One campaign.

Rogers Radio in North Bay is providing $10,000 worth of in-kind support for the campaign.
