With a long weekend coming a lot of people take the time to relax and get a round of golf in.

This weekend, you can help an armed forces program.

It’s called Soldier On and it supports military members in overcoming physical injury or mental health illness through physical activity and sport.

This weekend you’ll be asked to support Soldier On at three area golf courses,Pinewood, Highview and the North Bay Golf and Country Club (pictured) when you register for your round.

Osprey Links has already held its event.

22 Wing Commander Col. Mark Roberts says its important to get military members on to the next chapter of their lives.

He says sports is a big part of the military and this is a great way to transition members to their new normal after serving.

Local Honourary Col. Tom Hedican came up with this weekend event idea back in 2012 and says he’s had plenty of support from all the golf professionals.

Soldier On has raised over $4 Million to support the purchase of various sporting equipment including golf clubs, kayaks and skis.
