The Powassan Voodoos have signed a few more players, including Battalion draft pick and goaltender Christian Cicigoi.

The Thunder Bay netminder split duties in two of the Voodoos exhibition wins after Battalion training camp wrapped up.

Voodoos GM Chris Dawson, likes what he’s seen so far from Cicigoi, who was selected in the sixth round of the 2017 OHL Priority Selection by the North Bay Battalion.

“He was one of the top five goalies taken in all the province for his age category,” said Dawson. “I see him having the potential to succeed much like Evan Cormier did with the Jr. Trappers in 2013-14. The sky is the limit for this young man. He’s poised and mature beyond his years.”

Cicigoi says he’s excited to start the next chapter of his career with the Voodoos in Powassan.

They obviously came off a strong season last year,” said Cicigoi about the defending NOJHL champs.  “Top tier coaching staff and ownership played a huge part of the team’s successes. Looking forward to carrying on the winning tradition. The transition from midget to junior was made easy because of the billets I was awarded. I’m just going to be myself. Make the saves necessary to help my team win. I’m focused on the next save.”

Meantime, Powassan also signed former Hockey Northwestern Ontario player of the year Quintin Loon-Stewardson, who is from Sioux Lookout.

He scored 27 goals and 24 assists for 51 points in 45 games with the Thunder Bay Kings Major Midgets last season.

They also inked defenceman Noah Holm, a grad of the North York Rangers major midget program.
