A tough loss for the Nipissing Lakers women’s soccer team this weekend as they fell 1-0 to Laurentian.

The only goal came in the 84th minute.

The men won their game by a similar 1-0 score with William Tsilkas getting the only goal of the game on a penalty shot.

It also came late in the 2nd half with about 7 minutes to go.

Both Lakers teams have their home openers on Saturday against Queen’s and those games will be at St Joseph Scollard Hall.

The lacrosse team went 1-2 on their opening weekend on the road.

Nick Chaykowsky led the way in Friday’s win with 5 goals and Scott Dominey had 4.

Chaykowsky and Dominey each had two goals in Saturday’s loss and on Sunday Dominey led Nipissing with 5 markers and Chaykowsky had another 3.

The home opener is Saturday night at 6 versus Bishops at Veterans Field.

(cross country)

A good weekend for the Nipissing Lakers cross country team at the Laurentian Open.

Jordan Cascagnette was the overall race winner and is the first Laker to win this race and he also set a new Nipissing University record for the event.

The Nipissing team posted the fastest average finishing time for a Lakers squad at this event.

On the women’s side, Saree Sasson was 2nd overall.

And the team set a university record just like the men.

Both Lakers squads broke the previous bests by around 30 seconds.
