No decision yet from city council on the Laurentian Playground site being the next home of an off leash dog park in North Bay.

Chair of Community Services Councillor Mark King says he’s keeping the proposal on committee, but has a couple of major problems with the staff report.

He says he needs to learn more about how the park would operate on a municipal property with residential housing nearby.

“I don’t like it. That park has been there since annexation. It was set aside for the use of people and kids. It wasn’t set aside for dogs,” he says.

Paula McCloskey is the Senior Manager of Parks,Rrecreation and Leisure services.

She says the city values greatly the elements of the park that are already in place and they don’t intend to disrupt those elements in any way.

The park would be run by the North Bay and District Humane Society.

The item remains on the Community Services Committee file and King says the vote could happen as soon as two weeks if the humane society can respond to councillor concerns.

He says those concerns include the noise of the dogs, keeping the park clean and the impact of the city cutting down trees to make room for the park.
