North Bay OPP and the MTO are focusing on seat belt usage over the next week and a half.
Their Fall Seatbelt campaign runs from Wednesday through Friday October 6th.
Police say the number of people who weren’t wearing seatbelts and died in collisions on OPP-patrolled roads across the province last year was 45.
“Seatbelt law enforcement and education is one of the OPP’s traffic safety priorities; the OPP conducts provincial seat belt campaigns every year to raise awareness of seat belt use and their effectiveness in saving lives in the event of a collision,” says North Bay OPP Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant Chris Summersby.
Fines for not wearing a seatbelt can reach $240, along with two demerit points.
