A 27 year old man from North Bay is planning on making the Canadian National Sprinting team and has his eyes set on the next Summer Olympics.

Nick Laporte is a former hockey player who is looking to compete in the 100 metre event in Tokyo 2020.

Last fall he joined the University of Calgary track team and will compete in the indoor season starting in November.

His best time is 10.50 seconds with the standard time for consideration 10.15 seconds.

Laporte says there’s plenty of room for improvement.

He says former Olympian and world champion Ben Johnson has agreed to coach him full-time.

A GoFundMe account (CLICK HERE) has been set up to cover rent, coaching, training facilities and more.
