There was a presentation to council this week calling for the city to take steps to make Algonquin Avenue safer for motorists and pedestrians.

Councillor Tanya Vrebosch says staff is currently undergoing a study on possible options from Front Street all the way to the intersection at the highway.

“We need to make sure that we’re looking at the entire length of it. Algonquin Avenue is not a small street. It’s not just a couple of cars going down it it’s a major street in the city so any changes we do make will have an effect on drivers.”

She says one of the things they’re doing is conducting a traffic count but they are looking at several areas.

“You’re looking at left hand turns, speed limits, you’re looking at cross walks, you’re looking at pedestrian signalized intersections so there’s lots to it.”
