Sunday November 19th is the planned date for the move of the Dionne home to its new location between the Discovery North Bay Museum and Marina Point.

Ed Valenti is chair of the board that will govern the home.

“It’s been a long process and somewhat difficult. We managed to make this a goal and we’re all happy with that,” he says.

Valenti says the move will be made with 3 different pieces of the home and will take place along Fisher St.

Meantime, he says there’s plenty more to do including coming up with an operating agreement with the city.

Last night, Valenti said they would need $60,000 to operate the home in the first year.

“There are certain costs that we’re starting up with like computers and telephones,” he says.

The city is being asked for $35,000 with the board also fundraising and looking to secure government funding and operational grants.

Councillor Daryl Vaillancourt says he’s concerned that council will have to keep supporting the home financially.

“If it’s not working out with funding agencies or fundraising then it seems we’ll just go to the city and we’ll open up their piggy bank,” he says.
