A provincial boost in Ontario Municipal Partnership Funding, including here in North Bay, is being welcomed by the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities.

FONOM says the province has recognized municipalities are facing challenging fiscal circumstances by not only increasing funding but also targeting the funding to municipalities that are most challenged.

Although they do say some communities are seeing a decrease in funding.

The increase in OMPF funding for North Bay is $1.56-million.

As released by Ontario’s Ministry of Finance, the City of North Bay’s combined benefit of the 2018 OMPF and provincial uploads totals $24,145,900.

Officials say that is the equivalent of 31% of the City’s municipal property tax revenue.

In 2018, the city’s combined benefit ($24,145,900) includes:
– $9,171,100 through the OMPF
– $14,974,800 benefit resulting from the provincial uploads

In 2017, the city’s combined benefit ($21,534,100) included:
– $7,615,100 through the OMPF
– $13,919,000 benefit resulting from provincial uploads.

The province says the 2018 allocation exceeds the city’s 2017 combined benefit by $2,611,800 and payments received in 2004 by $7,534,900.
