Justin Brazeau (pictured) scored a hat trick as the North Bay Battalion beat the Barrie Colts 5-2 yesterday at Memorial Gardens.

Head Coach Stan Butler says Brazeau’s OHL career is becoming a true underdog story.

“He was a late round pick and he’s come in and turned into a very good hockey player,” he says. “It just shows kids from the north there’s spots in the League for northern kids, and there’s a kid out of Liskeard who has worked really hard and turned himself into one of the top players in the League.”

Brazeau now has 23 goals and 16 assists in 31 games this season.

The Troops fired 48 shots on the Colt’s goal while Battalion netminder Christian Propp stopped 25 of 27 shots.

Luke Burghardt and Adam Thilander also scored for the Battalion.

Meantime, the annual Teddy Bear toss during the game saw nearly 600 plush toys collected for a number of groups in the city.

North Bay is back in action Thursday at home to Hamilton.
