A local goalie got the win and the shutout for Team Canada at the world juniors last night (Wednesday) in Buffalo.

North Bay’s Colton Point made 20 saves as the Canadians shut out Slovakia 6-0 to move to 2-0.

Point got the start in net after Carter Hart backstopped Canada to a 4-2 win over Finland to start the tournament on Tuesday.

With a pair of back-to-back games in the preliminary round Canadian head coach Dominique Ducharme decided to rest Hart, the presumptive number one goalie.

Point says he was grateful for the opportunity.

“This is something you tell your kids about, ‘I played in the World Juniors when I was younger’, so I’m just trying to gather as much as I can,” he says.

Canada has today off before facing the Americans tomorrow.
