Voters in Ontario head to the polls in 2018 and MPP Vic Fedeli says ‘change’ will be one major theme.

In his year end interview he says there are issues with the sitting government.

“Severe issues with trust and accountability, and I would believe that this election will be all about change, for many it will be about jobs and the economy,” Fedeli says.

That’s because he says most of the job growth is happening in the Toronto and Ottawa areas.

“Only one per cent of the job growth happened in the rest of Ontario, here in North Bay and Nipissing we fell nine per cent since the recession, so we have negative job growth,” he says.

Fedeli says the PC’s 80-page platform has been launched and it’s a great opportunity for people to learn what they mean by ‘change’.

As for 2017, Nipissing’s MPP says the year was spent shining a light on northern Ontario.

“On every issue at Queen’s Park, I would stand in the legislature and describe how that was going to affect us here in North Bay and in the riding of Nipissing,” Fedeli says.

He says that involved everything from looking to the province to slow down the implimentation of the $15 minimum wage to his Private Members Bill that looks to allow 14-storey wood buildings.

Fedeli says the lumber industry will benefit in the north and with machine shops here, the riding will benefit too.

“There really is an important play, in terms of the spin-off directly for the riding of Nipissing, but when you look at the overall effect of using more wood, it sequesters carbon so it’s good for the environment, and it’s really good for the north,” Fedeli says.
