The Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the North Bay Snowmobile Club says their trails aren’t open yet and that’s something they haven’t experienced this late in January.

“The latest we’ve had in recent years is January 22nd. We’re unfortunately going to set a new record for the latest opening for the North Bay trails anyways.”

Shawn Flindall says they are hoping to open some trails by the weekend.

“We’ve got some trails across Mattawa and to the east open and obviously North Bay, South Shore, Powassan and South River are trying to get some trails open to link up to all that.”

Flindall reminds snowmobilers if a trail is closed don’t use it as it’s closed for a reason.

He says snowmobiling is a great winter activity that’s a lot of fun but people should always keep safety in mind.
