In a few days North Bay’s Tyler Nicholson will be achieving his Olympic dream.

He’s entered in the Men’s Slopestyle and the Big Air competitions and his Olympics will start Friday night.

On Monday, his parents Rosemary and Mike were on hand at Widdifield Secondary School as staff and students wished them luck as they prepare to see Tyler compete at the games in South Korea.

She says Tyler’s career began while he was at Widdifield and he hasn’t forgotten that.

“This is his roots. This is where he lived for the majority of his time. The friends he left behind, the people he met including teachers and throughout the community too. North Bay means the world to him,” she says.

They were presented with a City of North Bay flag by Mayor Al McDonald, which they will take to the games.

There are also two banners up at the Laurentian Ski Hill and the school for people to sign.

Less than a year ago though Rosemary says she wasn’t so sure if Tyler was going to reach his Olympic dream.

She says he had a serious leg injury and a lot of people were doubting whether he was going to make it to the games.

“His surgeon told him the day of the surgery that they were doing the best they can and after the operation they would be cheering him on at the 2018 Olympics,” she says.

The men’s Slopestyle qualifying round is Friday, February 9th at 8 pm, with the final Saturday at 8 pm.

Qualifying for the men’s Big Air competition is Tuesday, February 20th at 7:30 pm, with the final on Friday February 23rd at 8 pm.
