The Powassan Voodoos have secured top spot in the NOJHL.

Cade Herd (pictured) scored twice to lead Powassan to a 4-3 win over Kirkland Lake on Saturday night.

The Voodoos 40th win of the season also clinches first overall in the regular season standings.

It’s the second straight season Powassan has finished first overall.

In OUA women’s hockey, the Nipissing Lakers wrapped up the regular season with a 3-1 win over Laurier on Saturday.

The Lakers clinched fourth overall in the standings and will play number five Ryerson in the first round of the playoffs.

 

In the Great North Midget League playoffs, the North Bay Major Midget Trappers beat Timmins 9-2 on Saturday to take a 2-0 lead in their series.

Hunter Foreshew scored a hat trick in the win, with Sam Garagan and Cole Craft each scoring twice.

Ian Denomme and Nick Hakala added singles.

The series resumes with game three next Saturday in Timmins.
