An update on that video circulating on social media that appears to show someone buying drugs at a downtown residence, then getting into a police cruiser, which drives away.

City police confirm it stems from a taxi fraud complaint and resolving non-payment of a taxi fare.

Earlier this week, U Need A Cab owner John Strang said the person was originally in one of their cabs and didn’t have enough money to pay the fare, and by rule they call police.

He says the officer took the passenger in the cruiser so they could get what was remaining in the fare.

“The gentleman that appeared in the video pleaded his case to the police. And said I’ve got the money but it’s at another address and I’ve got to get there,” Strang says.

He says the officer then took the person in the video away so they could pay what was owing.

“The police officer was just trying to do a good deed, help out our company and not charge this guy. She went above and beyond the call of duty,” he says.

Police Chief Shawn Devine says both people in the video were interviewed and confirmed the officer had no knowledge of what transpired and took no part in any illegal activity.

He says there was no breach of service policy and there’s insufficient grounds to pursue drug or criminal charges.
