Nearly a week ago, there was a serious fire on Cartier St.

Fire Prevention Officer Captain Randy Vezina says since that fire they’ve initiated a new policy following all serious blazes.

He says firefighters are going door to door talking to neighbours, answering questions and giving them the low down on being fire safe.

He says these talks will cover a lot of issues.

“Smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, heating appliances, extension cords, candles, matches, lighters, smoking and cooking,” he says.

Vezina says the idea is talk to neighbours about fire issues and answer questions they may have.

“The push is on education and it’s an opportunity for homeowners to ask our firefighters questions or even describe some of their concerns to the firefighters,” he says.
Meantime, the cause of the Carter St. fire is being investigated by the Fire Marshall’s office with damage pegged at around $200,000.
