April is Daffodil Month in North Bay and the local Canadian Cancer Society will be out and about in the community raising awareness of their programs.

Senior Manager Gil  Pharand says it’s a busy month.

“We have our door to door campaign which goes on throughout the whole month of April. And we have our pin sales which will take place for the most part on the weekend of April 14th,” he says.

He says there’s also a workplace campaign.

Pharand encourages workplaces to paint their businesses yellow during April and there are also supporting campaign events at E.T. Carmichael Public School and True North Chevrolet Cadillac.

Pharand announced the campaign at an event on Thursday and it was quite emotional with several speakers sharing their cancer related stories including Pharand.

“I lost my mother to breast cancer. That’s a tough one when I talk about it. My older brother though is a cancer survivor. I have both sides where you lose someone but you also have someone else in your family that is still going,” Pharand says.
He says volunteers are the life blood of the organization and they’re always in need of volunteers to help run their programs.
