Details have been announced for this years Armed Forces Day in North Bay.

It will be held on Wednesday June 13th starting at 10:30 at the waterfront.

The performers will be the CF-18 Demonstration Team and the Skyhawks, the Canadian Armed Forces Parachute Team.

Honorary Colonel George Burton says it’s not easy to get two teams like this at the same event so it promises to be an exciting day.

“We’re blessed to have both teams here. They love coming to North Bay because of the reception they get from the community. They love the crowd and demonstrate what they do and the skill sets that they have,” Burton says.
There will be military static displays and a chance to get autographs and take selfies with both the Skyhawks and the CF-18 Demonstration Team.

Burton says there’s also plenty of evening entertainment planned.

“It’s going to be local. The lineup is being put together and it’s going to be an enjoyable evening for everybody,” he says.
The evening activity starts at 6 pm.

22 Wing commander Col. Mark Roberts says it means a lot to the military here that the community recognizes the contribution their members make to Canada.

He says you see their members in the community every day contributing to North Bay.

“We’re your next door neighbour and your kids soccer coach. We’re embedded in the community and it’s a great way to celebrate Armed Forces Day together,” he says.

Major John Verran says this years event will also mark the 60th anniversary of NORAD and that’s one of the unique things about serving in North Bay for Canadian and American forces.

“They’re very much integrated the same way we’re integrated into the operations that go on in North Bay. And having them here as an Armed Forces Day versus a Canadian Armed Forces Day absolutely speaks to the partnership that NORAD has,” Major Verran says.
