Those who volunteer in our community were recognized for the contributions they make to organizations and the community.

The event at the WKP Kennedy Gallery was organized by the Nipissing Volunteer Managers Network.

The Volunteer coordinator at One Kids Place is Ashley Brookes.

She says North Bay and all it means would be a much different place without volunteers.

“All of our festivals, our sports, our special activities that our kids are having. It’s amazing what we wouldn’t have without all these wonderful people.” she says.
The mayor proclaimed this week and last week as volunteer weeks because last week’s event was cancelled due to bad weather.

Al McDonald says people don’t volunteer for recognition. They volunteer because they want to make a difference.

“The greatest thing you can get is for someone to say thank you. It’s an opportunity for us to say thank you to everyone who who gets involved and makes our city a better place,” she says.

Meantime, the volunteer service awards which were cancelled last week have been rescheduled for Tuesday night at the Capitol Centre starting at 7:30.

90 North Bay and area residents will be honored.

There will be 5, 10, 20,25,30, and 35 year awards handed out plus youth awards as well.
