There won’t be any news coming forward on the redevelopment of Cassellholme before the provincial election.

North Bay City Councillor Chris Mayne, who sits on the Cassellholme board, says the province isn’t saying no to the plan but isn’t willing to give the green light yet either.

“Because it’s a more detailed proposal they are looking for more time to review it. Bottom line they won’t be ready to give us approval to move forward before the election,” Mayne says.

Mayne says at a meeting on Monday the Ministry of Health and Long Term care said they are favour of the proposal and he feels that all three parties would be in favour of moving the issue forward regardless of the election results on June 7th.

Casselholme’s proposal is to develop the existing 240 beds, add 24 more and develop 33 beds at the nursing home in Trout Creek which Cassellholme would support through a ‘hub model’.

Mayne says he’s disappointed.

“No question that with all the work we’ve done. In the last 7 weeks, we went out and did 1 more round of getting final approval from the 9 member municipalities to move forward with the redevelopment. We had been really hoping to be part of that first rollout of 5,000 beds,” he says.
