First Nations Chiefs from across the province are in the North Bay area this week.

The 44th annual All Ontario Chiefs Conference is being hosted by Nipissing First Nation.

The highlight will include the election of a new regional leader.

Regional Chief Isadore Day says Nipissing First Nation is the perfect host as it was one of the signatories of the Robinson Huron Treaty in 1850 which led to the creation of the province of Ontario in 1867.

Nipissing First Nation Chief Scott McLeod says they’re one of the largest First Nations communities in Ontario with a population over 2,000 and their culture, traditions and hospitality will be on full display for the delegates and observers.

The theme for the conference is ‘Securing a Future for Our Children: Advancing Our Nations’.

For those unable to attend, the AOCC will be live streamed at: https://livestream.com/firsttel
