An update from OPP into the investigation of a possible drowning on the Sturgeon River in West Nipissing on Canada Day.

Police say a body was recovered yesterday afternoon (Monday) in the river, not Lake Nipissing as they earlier reported.

The deceased has been identified as 57 year old Marcel Joseph Morin of West Nipissing.

Police say he had been sitting on a chair on a wooden raft, when the chair broke and he fell into the river.

A post mortem is taking place tomorrow.

The Ontario Provincial Police North Bay Detachment Marine Unit, Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, Unmanned Aerial System and Aviation Services as well as the West Nipissing Police Service, West Nipissing Fire Service and Emergency Medical Services all responded to Sunday’s incident.

The investigation continues under the direction of the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Service.
