Several new lightning-caused forest fires were discovered in the North Bay district yesterday (Wednesday) bringing the total to 35 this season.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry website, one fire is a few kilometres north of Verner and is three hectares in size.

Other than one near Thorne, the rest are well north of West Nipissing through to Temagami.

Most are not yet under control.

Fire bans are posted in several area communities.

They include North Bay, Callander, East Ferris, West Nipissing, Chisholm, Powassan, Nipissing, Callander, Mattawa, Burks Falls, Sundridge, Magnetawan, Kearney and Perry.

South River, Machar Township and Temagami have suspended permits but are allowing camp fires.
