Work on the new Gathering Place location on Cassells Street is coming along with construction on the larger facility expected to be completed later this month.

That’s the word from Executive Director Dennis Chippa, who tells BayToday they will still need to do the finishing touches.

“Still get painted, do some of the fixtures then probably moving in September. We’re targeting mid to late-September for the grand opening,” he says.

Chippa says they also want to try it out and see how everything works before the grand opening.

The new location will have upwards of 45 seats in the dining area, nearly double what they currently have.

He says the kitchen will be about the same size as their current location, but there are two separate areas for them to use, including a prep area.

“It’ll double the capacity of what we’re doing, the storage will increase the capacity for our food rescue programs and it’ll also allow us to have more people in the serving area. People can still cook, people can stay a little longer,” Chippa says.
