Finding the Missing Millions is this year’s World Hepatitis Day theme. Hep C Nurse Practitioner at the Aids Committee of North Bay and area Keri McGuire-Trahan says there are 300 million patients who have Hep C who haven’t been diagnosed.

She says the good news is there’s a cure.

“What else can we cure that has a 98 % cure rate with a very simple regimen of 1-3 pills a day for 8-12 weeks and virtually no side effects,” she says.

She says 1 in 12 people suffer from Hep B and C and that represents 1-2 % of the population.

“We’re trying to find a small community to see if we can wipe out Hep C and if successful go from there. The goal is to make Ontario Hepatitis C free by 2030.” she says.

You can go to the Aids Committee of North Bay and area office to get tested.
