Another North Bay goaltender is heading to the NCAA.
19 year old Nate McDonald, who was the Voodoos NOJHL MVP in their championship season is heading to Cornell University in the fall.
Last season he played for Whitby and Markham in the Ontario Jr A Hockey League.
McDonald tells BayToday it’s a big jump to Division One with stronger and faster players in their mid-20’s.
“This summer I’m really focusing on my speed, getting stronger in the gym and getting accustomed to bigger, faster shots from older guys,” he says.
He says playing for Powassan was huge for developing his game.
“Having the opportunity to play almost 40 games as a rookie, just getting accustomed to a more ‘grown-up’ style of play, rather than playing minor hockey,” he says.
North Bay’s Colton Point spent the past two seasons playing for Colgate and just signed an entry level deal with the NHL’s Dallas Stars.
