Metrolinx and Ontario Northland are combining forces over the next few weekends on a pilot project.

A train will leave Union Station in Toronto around 5:30 on Friday and those passengers who want to spend the weekend in Northern Ontario will be able to transfer to an Ontario Northland bus at the Go Train station at Barrie around 7 pm that will take them to North Bay.

Director of Marketing and Communications Rebecca McGlynn says they’ve received requests from customers for more access to Go Trains.

“Currently we stop at Yorkdale but people want to connect to the Go Train. But this is a new product and it allows passengers to take advantage of Go services, ” she says.

This service will take place on weekends only in August and the buses will stop at Gravenhurst, Bracebridge, Huntsville and North Bay and then return on Sunday.

McGlynn says they’re going to study the passenger demand on this project.

“If the ridership is good and we get good feedback on our passengers we’re going to look at this pilot project closely and see if there’s opportunity to build on this,” McGlynn says.

She says 1 ticket will provide transportation on both the bus and the Go Train.
