As of Monday night, there were 44 active forest fires in the northeast.

Of those, 18 are not under control.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says there were 4 new starts on Monday.

The major fires are Lady Evelyn and Parry Sound 33.

The Lady Evelyn fire is over 27,000 hectares and hasn’t grown in the last 2 weeks but isn’t under control either.

Parry Sound 33 is over 11,300 hectares in size and is not under control.

Crews have been helped by 10 millimetres of rain but dry conditions remain.

At last check, over 550 firefighters are currently in Ontario and that includes firefighters and support staff from across Canada, the United States and Mexico.

We remain under a restricted fire zone.
