There were fewer job postings in Nipissing in the Labour Market Group’s Jobs Report in July.

That’s not too surprising according to Executive Director Stacie Fiddler.

She says there were 551 postings in June and 495 in July.

She points out many of the positions were filled in the spring.

“We’ll see a bit of a decline in the fall as the summer tourism season declines. We’ll see a bump around the holidays as more of our local retailers are looking to fill jobs as it becomes busier,” she says.

The report also focused on women in the workforce. It revealed the unemployment rate for women is Nipissing is 7.7% compared to 12 % for men.

Fiddler says that’s not too surprising.

“They tend to have a lower unemployment rate because they tend to accept a lower paying job or a job that is not in their field or a job that fits their lifestyle that fits their home life,” Fiddler says.
