If you’re a nature enthusiast you may want o check out the Louise de Kiriline Lawrence Nature Festival Saturday at Laurier Woods.

The 5th annual event will be held from 9-3.

It’s being presented by several organizations including the Nipissing Naturalists Club.

President Fred Pinto says there will be several activities for people of all ages including a live insects display and interactive activities like building a pollinator home.

“We also have a community art activity where can people can paint a drawn scene from Laurier Woods,”
Other activities include nature photography, wood crafts, introduction to birding and a wetland animals and plants session. There’s no charge for any of the activities.

The festival is named in honor of Louise de Kiriline Lawrence.

Pinto says de Kiriline Lawrence lived near Mattawa and studied wildlife and ornithology.

“She was an observer of nature and wrote 5 different books on nature. One of them won an international award. She also wrote research books on her observations and she is still remembered as the bird lady of Bonfield,” she says.
