International Overdose Awareness Day is being marked in the city today (Friday) with several groups gathering to remember those lost.

Officials say the goal is to raise awareness and reduce the stigma around drug-related death, pointing out overdose can affect anyone.

The gathering goes from 1 pm to 3:30 pm at Leger Square beside City Hall.

A garden of remembrance is being unveiled.

Free Naloxone kits and training will also be available.

The event is being hosted by the AIDS Committee of North Bay and Area, the Community Counselling Centre of Nipissing and the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit.
